I will be honest, I always liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.

Just a few clicks and a customer can set an order using a freelancer according to a specific set of deliverables.

Sure, but it comes at a cost. A huge one.

That is just one the few freelance platforms in which buyers are given free reign to abuse, threaten and blackmail vendors any way that they like.

Why?

In this post, I want to discuss a recent bad experience for a seller on Fiverr, and also I chose to give up on the stage altogether.

How A Regular Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation

While I have been using Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a little while, this specific encounter relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.

(I've been guiding her building a respectable account, and the way to go above and beyond every previous order. Everything stated is that her doing, I'm just an observer.)

In cases like this, she'd only gotten another $5 order on her logo gig, which seemed to be like any other... or so we thought.

The order was fulfilled in good time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus logo concept as well as the source file (which is usually part of the costlier package).

The client"loved" one of the concepts and so we proceeded to send her the appropriates record sizes, as mentioned in the gig description. Shortly afterwards, things got a little bizarre.

The customer came back requesting a social networking kit to decide on the logo, something that is obviously not available as a member of her or his gig.

In my advice, my buddy decided to deliver the further work, although not getting paid any extra for this.

Following that, the client responded with even more requirements and a few changes to the social media files.

At this time, she concurred enough was enough.

Despite every effort to please this person, they were clearly overstepping their boundaries here.

This is when the client went from only overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend's Fiverr standing hostage.)

While she took some time to contemplate a reply and reach to Fiverr support for help, the customer did finally go right ahead and leave a 1 star review.

Presumably this is to demonstrate her he/she was Amazon Sues 1,114 Fiverr Users Offering Fake Reviews Digital Trends not kidding.

Soon after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the support question, the client paid an additional $10 to your social media kit.

Naturally, the payment was accompanied by still another threat.

Now, all I wished to do was go all Liam Neeson and seek this person down so I could punch them from the face.

However, in the time, I still had hope that Fiverr service would step in and rescue my girlfriend out of this PITA client.

When the response came from Fiverr support, they told that they couldn't Fiverr - Wikipedia force the buyer to take the order.

Alright, that is fair enough. (Even though the buyer accepted it.)

They also proposed drawing up a list for the buyer to demonstrate the job was completed in accordance with the gig requirements.

Honestly, this reply simply didn't cut the mustard.

My girlfriend communicated in her first email that the customer was hoping to extort her for free work outside the agreed conditions, by leaving a negative review if she didn't comply.

Of course, it was not really about the job, it had been all about seeking protection against an abusive customer who had been blatantly pushing his luck.

Their reply didn't provide either of us some confidence that Fiverr really understood , and even at this stage we felt as though they did not need to get involved.

At the identical time, she also responded to the buyers newest danger, explaining that she would not continue to function with them unless the feedback had been changed/removed.

(Again, this is feedback which has been obviously and intentionally made to bully her to providing work outside the agreed provisions .)

A fair petition by anyones standards, correct?

Instead of acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this point, Fiverr immediately turned the tables in my girlfriend.

Turns out, she was the one breaking all of the rules.

Since she had asked the customer to change their opinions, she was no longer eligible for some help from Fiverr assistance.

You can imagine how we both felt studying this.

Everything that the purchaser had done and said prior to her last message was now being swept under the rug -- as if never happened in any respect.

Fiverr essentially chose to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain in an account she'd worked so hard to build up.

And think, there are tons of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they can and will eliminate it.

Well, as all this was happening, I did a little investigating to determine if some other vendors went through a similar ordeal with a buyer.

Very quickly, I discovered a range of nearly identical cases about the Fiverr forum obsolete years ago. (that's right, years.)

This is clearly something which's been going on for quite a while and it all stems from providing buyers too much power over vendors.

When there's 1 thing I have heard about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.

Doesn't matter how long that you put into a project, or how hard you worked on itor maybe how long you managed communication in a dispute, as it actually comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.

Even when it's a very clear cut case in your favor, there's still every chance the customer will investigate this site come out at the top. All it takes it one little thing you"did no way" according to their terms of support and EVERYTHING else is ignored

Taking a look at the evidence, it's clear to me that Fiverr is well aware of what's going on, yet remains prepared to sit back and let it happen.

If you are a decision maker at Fiverr and you are reading this, then I urge you to seriously reconsider your existing support processes for freelancers.

It's not right that somebody can place all the time and effort in to building up an account and over-delivering at every conceivable chance, just to be taken down by the very people you rely on to protect you.

Look, I do not need to abandon Fiverr. I really don't need to be telling folks to prevent your own platform.

But after everything that's occurred, you haven't left me any choice.

Until something is done in order to protect freelancers from using this type of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this post and do whatever I can to stop others from falling victim to your one-sided support team.

The second you actually do something about this and also give freelancers a way to fight , I will be happy to update this article.
